How to set up and use Teamspeak |
As we are asking you to install and use TeamSpeak, it's only fair that we let you know how to set it up and use it effectively.
Headsets
First and foremost we recommend the use of headsets. The reason for this is that if someone is using speakers and is transmitting, we hear everything coming through the speakers creating a very unpleasant feedback loop.
Don't spend huge amounts of money on this, £10 will often buy a decent enough set. It can also help prevent partner aggro by keeping the PC noise down!
Downloading and installing TeamSpeak.
Go to http://goteamspeak.com and download TeamSpeak 2 (It's free.)
The one you want is the TeamSpeak 2 client for Windows.
Downloading and installing is easy. Configuration can get tricky but this guide will help.
Run Teamspeak by clicking on the icon once installed.
You will then need to ADD SERVER like this:
Right click to get the Add Server dialogue.

Then complete the details similar to the example above, put your registration details in.
Now that it's potentially working, it's advisable to check your audio settings so that we aren't hearing what you hear being broadcast again. Funky, but true.
Checking your Volume Settings.
The easy way to get to your volume settings is via your system tray.

See where the ticks are, and aren't? Your settings WILL be slightly different as all computers are, the main point is to have mics MUTED (ticked) in your volume playback settings.
Now let's check out the recording settings.
To get to them, click options then properties in the Volume Settings panel. Tick Recording. Tick all boxes to show them all then click ok.

Now look at the Recording settings, you only need Mic ticked. Adjust this volume to your desired level. It's different on all systems usually. Mine is full.
If you see What U Hear or Stereo Mix ticked here, untick it!

Then click on Advanced.
Scarily, I have another Mic in there called Mic2 - that can cause feedback so I disabled it. I also boosted my Mic, this gives a boost and can be handy to use if you are sounding faint.

Now that the major settings are done on your PC, we can look at the TeamSpeak settings.

Note how the actual sound card setting is used.
Also, you have the option of using push to talk or voice activated. If you use Voice Activated, set the level correctly or we all hear your wonderful Darth Vader breathing. Push to talk is generally easier on the ears.
Those settings are shown here.

I hope this helps you get TeamSpeak up and running well.
